This landmark dominates the Novohradské Mountains and is visible from a long distance when you drive from České Budějovice. The foundation stone of the Baroque church was laid in 1706 and, after the ceremonial consecration in 1715, the church gained its fame as one of the most important Marian pilgrim locations in Bohemia. The importance of the place was intensified by the existence of a spa, which inspired the famous writer Zikmund Winter to name this place “the Lourdes of South Bohemia”. The church underwent an extensive reconstruction in recent years, during which the interiors were restored. Without exaggeration, it can be said that a great job was done and this work of art is certainly worth seeing. The church is open to visitors outside of liturgical services. In addition to worship, cultural events are also held in the church.
