A romantic castle located on the bank of the Lužnice River near Týn nad Vltavou. The original fortress from 1565 was rebuilt in 1737-1741 under the direction of Earl František Wratislav of
Mitrowicz. The residential part was extended with the chapel of St. Anne, giving the castle its current Baroque appearance. In 2008, the castle underwent an exhausting and sensitive
reconstruction, and 8,500 plants and 50 trees were planted in the castle park. The castle off ers costumed tours, thematic events, a park, a herbal garden, boat trips, and stylish refreshment as well as accommodation and weddings.
Attraction:
The entire representative storey is decorated with epic frescoes showing scenes from the life of Václav Wratislav of Mitrowicz, known as Tureček, or the Little Turk. In 1591 he brought a message from Emperor Rudolph II to the Turkish Sultan in Istanbul. He was accused of being a spy, however, was arrested, and the young squire spend a year and a half on the galleys and two years in the worst Turkish prison – the Black Tower, nicknamed the „grave for the living“. Aft er his return home, he recorded his experiences in a readable book of travel.
