The brewery in Protivín has always been the largest brewery in the Prácheň region. The fi rst written mentions about the brewery and brewing the local beer come from 1540. In 1711 it became the property of the Schwarzenberg noble family, where it remained for over two hundred years. It was during the Schwarzenberg period when a new brewing room with copper pots was built in the brewery, including an atypical rectangular wort pan where beer is brewed even today. The golden period came at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, mainly before World War I when the Protivín brewery had its warehouses in Europe as well as in New York. The brewery has always been a pioneer of progress in its fi eld, and it honors the principles and traditions of Czech brewing.
